Jason (aka George)

Since Ramses said he would let me tell the story, here is how we "ended up with" Jason.

First of all, Jason is my nephew. He is my oldest brother’s youngest son and the second oldest of all my nieces and nephews. He is 12 years old and in the seventh grade. Jason’s mom died when he was 8 months old and since then he’s had a bit of a tough life. His dad has really tried, but raising two kids on your own is a very difficult job. Jeff remarried last summer and unfortunately, while he loves his stepmom, Jason developed a few more struggles. Finally, a few weeks ago, he and his parents decided that coming down to New Mexico to live with Ramses and I is the best thing right now.

We scrambled and got all the documents and everything we need put together. We cleaned out the spare room and some good friends donated furniture for his bedroom. The bunk bed actually came a few months ago from one of Rebekah’s coworkers. She didn’t want it anymore and we figured it’d be great for guests. The dresser used to be mine, I gave it to Ison, and the desk and shelf used to live in the house as Emily’s furniture (Emily is my former roommate who owns the house and Ison is her hubby). I talked to Emily a few days after we decided to bring Jason down and they were going to get rid of it all anyway, so they gave it to us. The other desk was donated by a family at church and just needs some paint.

So here we are! Jeff and his family live in the Salt Lake area, so we met halfway in Monticello, Utah on Sunday and picked up Jason. On Monday, we got him registered at school and on Tuesday, he started class. After school, I asked how it went and he said it was pretty good and that a lot of kids talked to him.

We’re working on personalizing his bedroom and making it his little world. We are excited to have him. We don’t allow our dogs to sleep in our bedroom, so they are thrilled that the new boy lets them sleep on his bed. This new venture is sure to give us a completely new world of experiences. I now know how to register a kid for school and the costs of buying school supplies.

Jason is a great kid. He barely even grumbled as we talked to him about the rules of our household, some of which are fairly rigid, especially in comparison to the rules at his dad’s. Let’s just hope the good times keep on going!

And why AKA George? His middle name is Alexander... Jason Alexander is the actor who played George Costanza on Seinfeld :0) I've used George as a nickname for Jason since he was a baby.
